School IntroductionFounded in 1909, Lanzhou University is one of the top universities directly administered by the Ministry of Education and elected as one of the key universities in “Project 211” and “Project 985”. It was originally named as Gansu School of Law and Politics. In 1928, it was expanded into Lanzhou Sun Yat-Sen University. It was renamed as National University of Lanzhou in 1945. In 2002 and 2004, the Institute of Gansu Grassland Ecology and Lanzhou Medical College merged in to Lanzhou University respectively.
Ever since the fall of 1987, Lanzhou University has been entitled to accept international students, among the universities authorized by the Ministry of Education. In 2002, the School of International Cultural Exchange was established to be responsible for the admission, instruction and the management of international students. In April.2008, Lanzhou University has been appointed as one of the higher institutions which are entitled to independently enroll degree program international students; the international student education has been developing tremendously. So far over 400 international students from 52 countries are studying on our campus under various kinds of programs.
