Harbin University of Commerce

Harbin University of Commerce covers a total area of 1,131,700 square meters, about 600,300 square meters of which are used for school buildings. Presently, there are 25,515 full-time students, among which 1712 are postgraduates.

The teaching staff of Harbin Commerce University has excellent academic performance. There is total 1936 teaching and administrative staff, among which 1525  are full-time teachers, 193 professors, 514 associate professors. There are 814 teachers with master’s degree and 505 teachers with Doctorate degree. There are 386 supervisors for graduate students and 49 supervisors for Ph.D students. The school has 1 member of the Discipline appraisal group for Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council; 1 member in the Science and Technology Committee of the Ministry of Education; 1 academician (expatriate) of the Ukrainian Academy of the Economic Sciences; 1 national candidate for “New Century Talents Project”; 1 candidate for the “Plan of Support for the Talents of Excellence of the Ministry of Education”; 7 “Longjiang Scholar” distinguished professors; 23 professors enjoy the special Government allowance from the State Council; 7 professors enjoy the special allowance from the Provincial Government; 15 Provincial (Ministerial) young-age and middle-age experts; 37 Provincial excellent academic leaders and reserve leaders; 10 Provincial Teachers of Excellence.

There are 22 departments, 2 Research Institutes: Institute for Business Economy and Commercial Engineering. HUC has undergraduate and graduate students majoring in 8 disciplines with 59 specialties, such as Economics, Management, Engineering, Law, Arts, Science, Medicine, Arts. The University now has 3 doctoral degree authorization stations for first-level disciplines, 16 doctoral degree authorization stations for second-level disciplines; 11 master degree authorization stations for first-level disciplines, 57 master degree authorization stations for second-level disciplines; 12 authorization stations for special mater degree; 3 post-doctoral scientific research mobile stations and 2 post-doctoral scientific research working stations. Moreover, HUC has 4 second place Prizes for National Teaching Achievement; 6 Specialties with National Characteristics; 3 Professional Comprehensive Reform Pilot Projects at the National Level; 3 National Elaborate Courses; 1 Teaching Stimulation Experiment Center at the National Level; 1 National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center; 27 National Planning Textbooks; 1 Provincial Personnel Training Mode Test Area; 1 Provincial Training Base for Sino Russian economy and trade; 15 Provincial key disciplines; 6 Provincial pilot projects for professional comprehensive reform; 32 Provincial elaborate courses; 5 Provincial teaching groups, and 5 Provincial experimental teaching demonstration Centers.

The University has 1 Antitumor National Engineering Research Center of Innovative Drugs; 1 Natural Antitumor Drug Engineering Research Center certified by the Ministry of Education; 1 National Key Construction of Training Base to Cultivate Teachers certified by the Ministry of Education; 2 Provincial Key Laboratories; 2 Provincial Engineering Research Centers; 3 Humanities and Social Sciences Key Research Bases certified by Education Department of Heilongjiang Province; 1 Philosophy and Social Science Key Research Bases certified by Heilongjiang Province, and 3 Provincial Key University Laboratories.

The HUC has always been open to admission of the students from all 30 Provinces and Autonomous Regions from around the country. During the 63 years of development, HUC has cultivated 140,000 professionals of various trades for the society, among them many have become famous experts and scholars, successful entrepreneurs and excellent management staff and administrators for the Communist Party and the Government. HUC has made great achievements in training talents.

The University has a number of Scientific Research results to fill the domestic gap in various areas. In 1959, the first food machinery in China – 601-type Dumpling Machine was developed. At the end of the 1950s, the problem of alternative food hazards to human health was solved by the Chlorella, which has had an outstanding effect. In 1960, one of China’s three major Accounting Bookkeeping Law-- property account double entry bookkeeping-- was created. In 1960, a series of teaching method including “reading, watching, discussing, speaking, doing, researching, writing” was honored on the national cultural and educational conference for the outstanding and was popularized. The famous Printed Press, Guangming Daily, reported teaching experience of our university on May 29, 1960. In 1981, academic theory of Northeast Asian Economic Zone collaborative development was first put forward.  In 1988, the first domestic automatic gas filling machine was developed. In 1996, the first financial and monetary Museum was built, which launched a number of influential achievements in scientific research. In 1999, the key project “ The integration demonstration project of technological automation of the Commerce” by the Ministry of Science and Technology was finished by our University. Since 2000, research results in fields like Applied Economics, Business Administration, Science of Chinese Pharmacology, and Food Science have an important influence nationwide.

In recent 5 years, the university has undertaken the 812 government sponsored projects and 179 non-government sponsored projects, including National Natural Science Foundation of China, the National Philosophy and Social Science Fund Project, the National Science and Technology Support Program, and the Ministry of Education Projects, etc. The University has 351 Patents for Invention and Utility Model Patents, with 95 authorized items. Scientific research has won 163 Provincial and Ministerial Awards. 361 books and 7617 papers are being published, among which 1863 paper are indexed by SCI, EI, and ISTP. 3 kinds of academic journals business studies, Journal of Harbin University of Commerce (NATURAL SCIENCE EDITION), Journal of Harbin University of Commerce (SOCIAL SCIENCE EDITION) are edited and published, among which business studies, is indexed by CSSCI, and is excellent academic journal with international influence in China, Journal of Harbin University of Commerce (SOCIAL SCIENCE EDITION) is among top 100 journals of Social Sciences in National Universities.

The University gives great level of importance to international exchanges and cooperation, and has established educational cooperation and academic exchange with 65 institutions in 28 countries and regions. Harbin University of Commerce, together with the 5 country-members of Shanghai Cooperation Organization, has founded the Journal “North-East Asia Academic Forum”, with total 13 Universities-participants.  Furthermore, joint training programs of undergraduate and graduate students are carried out with University of Leeds, Edinburgh Napier University. Exchange programs for undergraduates are carried out with Russia Plekhanov Economic University, Khabarovsk School of economics and law, the US Central University of Arkansas, Tokyo Marine University, South Korea Hunan University, Kazakhstan Eurasia Innovation University, and Holland Anglo-Dutch University, etc. More than 300 government officials, business executives and teachers from a total of 73 countries and regions, including Asia, Africa, South America and the Caribbean, South Pacific and the Commonwealth of Independent States come to the university to study and training. A number of scientific research cooperation is carried out with other Universities, including Novosibirsk State University of Technology and the Pacific National Economic University in Russia, RMIT University in Australia, Purdue University in USA, Tokyo Marine University in Japan, Youngsan University in South Korea.
